At Nix Farms our cow herd consists of a mix of Simmental, Angus, Maine-Anjou, Brangus and some Charolais genetics with approximately 25% of the herd being Brahman influenced. Although we AI over 200 head a year, some of our most successful steers have been sired by our herd bulls. 

Two of our herd bulls are Angus bulls purchased from Farmer Cattle Company of Ennis, Texas.  “Junior”, a Just Right son sired the Class Champion Light Weight Chi at Houston 2009 and “Nix 310”, a massive bodied, expressively muscled bull with tremendous neck extension, that sires 60 to 70 lb BW calves with body, muscle, function and a unique front-end design.

Our Limousin bull, “Grady”, is a Rulon x Dakota son whose first calf won the Light Weight Limousin class at San Antonio 2009. 

Our American Cross bulls consist of “Claw”, now deceased, that sired the Reserve Simbrah at Houston 2008 and the Reserve Brangus at San Antonio 2009.  Many of his daughters are now in production. “Mondo” (Monarch Limousin x Brangus-Maine) is our newest ABC bull, and we will have his first calves in Winter 2010.  Another recent addition, “Tweety”, sired by Greg Jones’ Hawk bull and out of a Shroeder Brangus, was used on heifers this past year with promising results.

Our Exotic clean-up bulls consist of “Cobb”, “George” and “Silverbelly”.  “Cobb” is a Full Flush grandson x Black Max that sired the Grand Champion steer at Bosque County 2009.  “George” is a Wooly Bully x Angus that originated from Neumann Farms. “Silverbelly” is a JR (Angus) x Limited Edition grand-daughter.
